It is important for plant operators to keep maintaining and updating their skills and knowledge. Operators must also show they can carry out a task safely.

Also before carrying out a task the site leader should make sure the plant operator has the appropriate training (correct DA ticket), experience, understanding of the work, and an awareness of hazards.

To help with both these aspects WRG has created a Plant Operator Logbook for volunteers to record their operating time, training and experiences on canal restoration projects.

Completing this log book is not compulsory, but is encouraged by WRG as “good practice”.
