20 May 2021

With the Covid situation improving, and the weather improving we have got much done this May. We had 13 and 20 volunteers turn out respectively for the two task party days, and despite a rainy month it missed us! We started on sprucing up locks 7 and 8 with a lick of paint. And continued with the fence repair work needed by lock 7.

On the 18th May we again did further fence repairs alongside the track that runs down to lock 7. Another Lock – 17 – was painted. We strimmed and mowed on the island at Lock 17, including river side lock landing. The overhanging vegetation over the footpath and by lock landing were removed. We also improved the block paving from lock 17 to the narrows, scraping it of moss and weeds. Finally a good ol’ litter pick up to bridge 13 with about 20 bags of rubbish and 3 shopping trollies collected! So our waterway users will find it a much tidier and more pleasant place to be – whether boating, walking or whatever.

These volunteer work parties normally take place twice a month along the Northampton Arm as part of the adoption by IWA Northampton Branch. Volunteer with us.
