Join the IWA Lichfield Branch for our first public meeting of the season entitled “Waterways Recovery Group in 2023 – Are we back to normal”

Our speaker will be the irrepressible Mike Palmer (Chairman of WRG) giving us an update on the latest projects and achievements of the Waterway Recovery Group.

In addition to Mike’s presentation the meeting will be attended by Sir Michael Fabricant MP for Lichfield, chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Waterways Group, patron of the Lichfield & Hatherton Canals Restoration Trust and a member of IWA Lichfield Branch.

Michael will give a short briefing on his contacts with HM Treasury, Defra, and Canal & River Trust on the latter’s funding issues.  This will be followed by an opportunity to ask questions.

This not to be missed meeting is open to all those interested in our navigable waterways and is part of IWA Lichfield Branch programme for 2023/24.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
