WRG is committed to the training and development of all our volunteers to ensure all our activities are safe and fun-filled activities.

As a starting point all leaders and assistant leaders should read our Leaders Guidance Note. For Cooks we have a separate Cooks Guidance Note.

Advice and Support

Your main role is to ensure that WRG Camps and digs are fun, well planned and safe experiences. Yes there’s some paperwork to be done prior to the camp but remember you aren’t alone – members of the WRG Canal Camps Team are always on hand to help you plan and organise your activities. The WRG Board will always offer impartial advice on any issues, and there is a Duty Director on each Canal Camp.

Every year we run a Leadership Training Day for volunteers running Canal Camps and for people interested in finding out what is actually involved and are maybe considering giving it a go. Where possible all leadership teams should attend the training day.

We also have IWA’s Restoration Hub which is full of resources such as training videos, project plan templates, advice and support.
