Leading or Assisting on a Canal Camp

Every year WRG runs a series of Canal Camps and this means we need to find a large number of volunteer Canal Camp leaders and assistant leaders each year.   As a leader or assistant you need to be able to give up a week of your time, have some experience of Canal Camps, and most of all be willing to look after 18 wonderful volunteers!

Your main role is to ensure that WRG Canal Camps are a fun, well planned and safe experiences. Yes there’s some paperwork to be done prior to the camp but remember you aren’t alone – you will have support from the WRG Head Office Team and WRG Board team.

STEP 1: The most important document to read first is WRG’s Leaders Guidance Notes. It gives you a good background to what is involved and who to contact if you need help.

STEP 2: Every year we run a Leaders & Assistants Training Day for volunteers running Canal Camps and for people interested in finding out what is actually involved and are maybe considering giving it a go. Where possible all leadership teams should attend the training day.  Details of our training day will be published in this Hub space every year.
