Join us for a 5 mile guided walk near Tarvin, featuring the river Gowy.

You will encounter quite a good selection of stiles, wooden kissing gates, footbridges, fields of crops and meadows, and some rarely used footpaths; a working water mill and other surprises along the way.   You may spot a few animals, especially squirrels in the woods and may encounter some farm animals and horses.

Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled, but boots will be best, and there should be no problems for anyone wearing shorts.

We will have a refreshments break half-way at the water mill which has an indoor café and shop, and toilets.  You can purchase refreshments here, or enjoy ‘bring your own’ refreshments at the picnic tables outside.

It will finish at the parking place early afternoon, about 1.30 pm.

See below for further details including how to book your place.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
