IWA Kent and East Sussex Branch Talk - Five Thames Creeks
Back

St Pancras Cruising Club is well known for organising regular convoys of narrowboats, to travel up the tidal Thames from Limehouse to Teddington. These are especially designed for skippers that are new to the tideway. In this illustrated talk, Simon Judge will talk about the club’s trip a few years ago, when a group of experienced tideway boaters explored five of the less frequently visited Thames Creeks further down river – namely Bow, Deptford, Barking, Dartford and Crayford Creeks. In order to find a suitable overnight mooring (and pub), we also went under the Dartford Bridge to find some moorings in Gravesend, and practiced cruising round in circles while waiting for the wind to abate.

Organised by the IWA Kent & East Sussex Branch. All branch events are open to non-members and you are encouraged to bring friends. If you know of any local club or society whose members might be interested then please do let them know. Entry is free with a raffle to cover costs.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
