At this first meeting of the new season, we are delighted to present a new talk developed the Daniel Adamson Preservation Society presentation team.

It will give the full story of the Shropshire Union canal (the “Shroppie”) and will explain the early history of the canal, its people, cargoes and towns right up to present day.  Preservation projects such as the renovation of the Daniel Adamson steam ship  and progress on the current Montgomery Canal restoration will be highlighted.

This is the first showing of the talk and will be presented by Les Green assisted by Chris Ellams, both of whom are members of the Society’s presentation team.  The team, this year, will complete some 200 presentations of their two original presentations, one on the steam ship and the other on the Manchester Ship Canal.

We hope you can join us.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
