2026 marks IWA’s 80th year protecting, restoring and championing Britain’s waterways. While that work is far from over, we will pause for an afternoon to celebrate all that we have achieved, while looking ahead to all that we will go on to do in defence of our wonderful waterways.
We will mark our anniversary aboard the iconic steamship S.S Daniel Adamson (The Danny) both for its heritage and character, as well as for what it represents today: a celebration of the past, and an example of what waterway protection means in practice.
The river Weaver is a scenic, historic and underused waterway. The afternoon will also highlight challenges that the river faces today by raising awareness of The Weaver’s significant potential for increased boating, heritage engagement and wider community benefit. The Danny cruise will bring the river’s story to life.
The afternoon is both a celebration and a statement recognising 80 years of achievement, while reaffirming our commitment to supporting the River Weaver’s continued use, connectivity and long-term potential.
Please join us aboard for a glass of bubbly in recognition of IWA’s 80 years as we celebrate the past and look with confidence to the future.
The Cruise – Anderton Boat Lift and back turning at Acton Bridge
The cruise covers approximately 8 miles over 3.5 hours. We’ll cruise to our turning point at Acton Bridge via Saltersford Lock before gliding back to our starting point at Anderton. Along the way, we will pass through two swing bridges, including a major road crossing. The route provides excellent views of the Anderton Boat Lift from the water, one of the great achievements of Victorian engineering.
We will be joined by local waterway societies, and refreshments will be available throughout the cruise. There is also a licensed bar on board.
Catering
Light refreshments will be provided as part of the 80th Anniversary celebration at the CRT marquee prior to boarding.
You will receive a complimentary glass of prosecco on board The Danny.
The Danny’s galley also offers a selection of drinks, snacks and cakes, along with hot and cold beverages and a licensed bar.
You are welcome to bring your own packed lunch. Please note that personal alcohol cannot be brought on board.
