Easy Countryside and Waterway Guided Walk ~ In Cheshire and Free.

This free guided waterway walk is suitable for beginners, so if you’re keeping fit and well wish to come along and join us, we would love to see more guest visitors.   Please book your place for the walk, and perhaps for lunch, as soon as you are confident you will be available.

This circular walk will be about 4.5 miles long and follows well used footpaths or hard paths most of the way.   Most of this walk is in the Weaver Parkway, which is a long and landscaped river valley and a delightful picturesque walk on a sunny day.   It’s a very popular locality with the numerous local joggers and dog-walkers.   There are several deep kissing gates, no roads and a good variety of scenery to enjoy; including over two miles of riverbank pathway.   As the route passes close to the west coast main railway and you may also see the Avanti Pendolino high speed train on its way to Glasgow.

There will be a ten-minute break about half-way round the walk for ‘bring your own’ refreshments and this walk will finish with an optional pub lunch.

Details

The length of this walk.....

.....is about 4½ miles, and we won't walk too fast for you.

This walk is most suitable for adults having good mobility.   Excellent for friendly dogs, but a challenge for wheelchair users.   Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled; trainers will be fine but boots will be the best.  If it has recently been raining heavily there could be a few occasional muddy patches.  The pub toilets will be available at the finish of the walk; and hopefully at the start.

Assemble at 10.15 am for a 10.30 start.    Finish about 1.15 pm.

Booking your place

To book, send an email to the walk’s organiser & guide: –  [email protected]

If you are bringing a partner please let me know both your names, and if you wish to book a place for the pub lunch afterwards please ask.  Places at the pub are limited so it’s best to make an early booking.   It will be a Carvery, so purchase a ticket at the bar and queue to be served.   Here you can download the menu options.  View the Menu.

On the Thursday before the walk, everyone who has booked in will be sent a reminder, and also the details of where to park your car or moor your boat.

The deadline for booking a place just for the walk is Saturday 16th December at 9.00 pm. – the night before the walk.

A booking confirmation will be emailed to you.

Assemble at 10.15 am for a 10.30 start.    Finish about 1.15 pm

Future Walks

FUTURE BRANCH WALKS: – For your calendar and diary; the next branch walk will be on 7th January next year; then reserve 16th February; 16th March; 13th April; and the last walk of the season will be on 4th May.

NEW ROUTE SURVEYS: – Derek Smith, who organises these walks for the branch, frequently goes out to survey and record routes for new walks, currently between 5 and 10 miles from Chester.   They normally take place mornings midweek, and he does love a bit of company.   He has a short list of often-available members, and if anyone is interested in joining him, please get in touch ([email protected]).

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
