Easy Countryside and Waterway Guided Walk ~ In Cheshire and Free.

This free guided waterway walk is suitable for beginners, so if you’re keeping fit and well wish to come along and join us, we would love to see more guest visitors.   Please book your place for the walk, and perhaps for lunch, as soon as you are confident you will be available.

To start off our new season of Guided Walks,  this circular walk has delightful scenery for almost all of the route.   It’s the walk that had to cancelled last December because of iced pavements.   Most of the scenery is close to hand; first alongside of the canal then through the Dingle Woods and valleys and other nature reserves.   There is only a little road walking and all of the paths are firm and mostly quite wide and well used.   There are no stiles and only a few old wooden kissing gates.   Only one or two easy slopes to climb and no fields to cross so you won’t see many farm animals and it should be fine for friendly dogs.

There will be a ten-minute break about half-way round the walk for ‘bring your own’ refreshments and this walk will finish with an optional pub lunch.

Details

The length of this walk.....

.....is about 4¾ miles, and we won't walk too fast for you.

This walk is suitable for all adults having good mobility.   Excellent for friendly dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs.   Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled; trainers will be fine but boots will be the best.   The pub toilets will be available at the finish of the walk; and hopefully at the start.   If it has recently been raining heavily there could be a few occasional muddy patches.

Assemble at 10.15 am for a 10.30 start.    Finish about 1.30 pm.

Booking your place

To book, send an email to the walk’s organiser & guide: –  [email protected]

If you are bringing a partner please let me know both your names, and if you wish to book a place for the pub lunch afterwards please ask.  Places at the pub are limited so it’s best to make an early booking.   Here you can download the menu for Sunday lunch  VIEW the MENU

On the Thursday before the walk, everyone who has booked in will be sent a reminder, and also the details of where to park your car or moor your boat.  Thursday noon is also the target for booking a place for a meal.

The deadline for booking a place just for the walk is Saturday 16th September at 9.00 pm. – the night before the walk.

A booking confirmation will be emailed to you.

Future Walks

FOR YOUR DIARY: – Our branch walks for the 2023/4 season will start with this walk on 17th September, and the next will be on 15th October; followed by 19th November.   The Christmas walk will be on 17th December; and the new year walk will be on 7th January 2024.

NEW ROUTE SURVEYS: – Derek Smith, who organises these walks for the branch, frequently goes out to survey and record routes for new walks, currently between 5 and 10 miles from Chester.   They normally take place mornings midweek, and he does love a bit of company.   He has a short list of often-available members, and if anyone is interested in joining him, please get in touch ([email protected]).

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
