Chester & Merseyside Branch Walk

EASY COUNTRYSIDE and two WATERWAYS Guided Walk

The photo shows a section of the walk where the footpath takes us over the top gates of the River Weaver Dutton Locks.   The crew of this narrow boat are about to depart from the lock.

A group of thirty members attended the last walk up Caldy hill and we hope that you are keeping fit and well as we now have another walk planned.   We would love to see guest visitors again so perhaps you will be able to come along?   This walk starts with a nice easy stroll along the delightful Trent & Mersey Canal towpath near Northwich, then along the River Weaver bank, before returning through Acton village and the Countryside.    If you wish to come on this walk, please book your place when you are confident you will be available.

We will have a ten minute break half-way round the walk for ‘bring your own’ refreshments.

This is the last walk until September.

Details

DESCRIPTION

4¼ miles

In addition to the Trent and Mersey Canal near Northwich, this circular easy guided walk also features the river Weaver, and the surrounding countryside.  The route is quite flat and the walk is excellent for dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs & buggies due to several sets of steps and the very narrow final footpath through rough meadows.    Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled, but boots will be best if there has recently been heavy rain as this final footpath of the walk may become quite boggy – and some of the stiles are not in best condition.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
