Canal Camps Leadership Teams Training Day
Back

This year’s Leadership Teams Day will take place on Saturday 13th June at Lowsonford Village Hall.

The day is open to existing and aspiring WRG Canal Camp leaders, assistant leaders, and cooks. Leadership team members from this year are strongly encouraged to attend. Work party leaders and representatives from local societies are also welcome to join and compare experiences with WRG’s approach.

The primary focus of this year’s session will be site planning, with particular emphasis on excavation works. The programme will draw on recent project experience, as well as insights from last year’s Health & Safety reviews, highlighting the importance of clear planning and site organisation, well-considered material handling and access arrangements.

The day will be highly practical in nature, with opportunities to work through real-life scenarios and site layouts. Participants should expect hands-on activities, including setting up and organising equipment.

If there are specific topics you would like to see included in the agenda, please do let us know.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
