Join us on a virtual tour of the waterways in the IWA Shrewsbury District & North Wales Branch area. This presentation was delivered by our Chair, Michael Haig as part of this year’s AGM.
The tour starts with the Shropshire Union Canal. A landmark wharf crane to its former glory thanks to lobbying from the branch. Another heritage asset, which is still under threat, is the warehouse at Ellesmere Wharf. We have also raised concerns as part of a coordinated consultation response on the impact of HS2 on the Middlewich Branch environment.
One of our biggest campaign wins was on the Montgomery Canal. The branch successfully lobbied for CRT to extend the opening hours of Frankton Locks. We hope this will encourage more boats to explore the wonderful Mont.
We were also involved in fundraising for restoration projects, vegetation clearance projects and locating waste facilities. Additionally, we attended events and festivals, organised socials and much more.
Watch the video for the full tour.
Thank you
We would like to say a huge “thank you” to everyone who continues to support the branch and our work to protect and restore waterways in the area.
