Easy Countryside and Waterway Guided Walk ~ In Cheshire and Free.
This free guided walk is open to the general public, and suitable for beginners. If you’re keeping fit and well and wish to come along and join us, we would love to see more guest visitors. Please book your place for the walk, and perhaps for lunch, as soon as you are confident you will be available.
DESCRIPTION: – Halfway round this 4.75 mile circular walk, (although Jeanne will be taking a shorter 3.5 miles route), you will be passing two castles. Beeston with the old ruined castle on top of the hill, and the newer Peckforton castle close to your right. In this popular hiking locality, some of the paths are quite well used, but we will be using paths that are not. In the woods we can expect to find some boggy patches even in summer. (Those opting for the shorter route will be returning along the easy Sandstone Trail). There are a few stiles to climb over, but most have been replaced with steel kissing gates. The route is hilly in places but there are no steep uphill slopes. When we reach the canal on the longer route, we’ll take a very short excursion up the towpath to view the unique old Iron Lock, which is a scheduled ancient monument.
There will be a ten-minute break about half-way round the walk for ‘bring your own’ refreshments and this walk will finish with an optional pub lunch.

This walk is suitable for all adults having good mobility. Excellent for friendly dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs. Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled; trainers will be fine but boots will be the best. If it has recently been raining heavily the few muddy patches in the woods could be a bit boggy. The pub toilets will be available at the finish of the walk; and hopefully at the start.
Assemble at 10.15 am for a 10.30 start. Finish about 1.45 pm.
To book, send an email to the walk’s organiser & guide – [email protected]
