“Tatenhill and the Trent & Mersey Canal.” This is a 5 ½ mile figure-of-eight walk with 4 stiles, on footpaths, pavements, and the towpath. The route is lumpy in parts with several short ascents and descents, and parts of the route can be muddy and slippy after prolonged rainfall.

We first stroll through the picturesque village of Tatenhill, before proceeding on a quiet country road uphill to Callingwood Hall. From there we cross fields to bring us back down to the village. We then follow The National Forest Way up and over Battlestead Hill to bring us back down to the canal level via a new housing estate. We walk along the Trent & Mersey Canal to Tatenhill lock from where we pick up a footpath to lead us back to the village, passing an interesting geological feature along the way.

You are invited to join us for refreshment afterwards in the pub.

Meet 10:15 for a 10:30 start on Thursday 24th March 2022 in the car park of The Horseshoe Inn, Main Steet, Tatenhill, Burton on Trent DE13 9SD. Contact Clive Walker on clive.walker@waterways.org.uk
