Easy Countryside and Waterway Guided Walk ~ In Cheshire and Free.
This free guided walk is open to the general public, and suitable for beginners. If you’re keeping fit and well and wish to come along and join us, we would love to see more guest visitors. Please book your place for the walk as soon as you are confident you will be available.
Featuring the 1757 Oldest Double Locks in the country. The first sections of this 5 mile meandering and circular New Year walk take you through the very attractive and popular Sankey Valley Country Park alongside Black Brook, which was a feeder for the canal. Having admired the Old Double Locks we then follow the old canal, before winding through an urban landscape. Then we walk back along excellent paths beside the burbling Blackbrook and back through the Country Park woodland. This walk is particularly suitable for those interested in canal reclamations. All of the paths are good, several over grass, but mostly surfaced or having compacted chippings. The latter may be a bit muddy in winter or after heavy rain, although the cascading waterfalls at the Old Double Locks and overflows will then be at their best.
There will be a ten-minute break about half-way round the walk for ‘bring your own’ refreshments.
