River Canal Rescue - IWA Manchester Branch Meeting
Back
Moored boats in Great Haywood on the Staffordshire & Worcester Canal

Come join us for this month’s Open Meeting on Monday 12th February, at 7.15pm in the Castlefield Hotel.

River Canal Rescue: boating trials and tribulations & engine maintenance

Charlotte Perry will introduce RCR: a little bit about who they are, what they do and membership packages. Jay will then cover engine maintenance
and boating trials and tribulations.

RCR is a breakdown and recovery provider for boaters .Their services include Replacement Parts Cover, Rescue and Salvage services, and WaterNav (an app offering an SOS button; offline mapping for the entire network; route planning and membership management). They are currently working on a remote monitoring system and a hydrogen fuel cell propulsion system for boats.

Charlotte started her journey undertaking weekend work at RCR then progressed to apprenticeship and eventually office manager and a Director.  Jay started as an apprentice at 16 and is now a Director of the business. He has, a love of vintage engines and gearbox rebuilds and, as a Marine engineer with over 15 years experience out in the field, a Q&A shouldn’t phase him.

We will start gathering 7.15pm at the Castlefield Hotel on Liverpool Road, Manchester M3 4JR for 7.30pm start in one of the ground floor conference rooms. The entrance to the hotel is on the side facing towards Deansgate overlooking the Castlefield outdoor arena. The talk is free to attend and everyone is welcome.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
