Campaign Cruise event graphic

The Fund Britain’s Waterways (FBW) action group has organised a campaign cruise to Birmingham on the weekend of 12th – 13th August.

Join the campaign cruise and help us to get the message across to government that increased funding for Britain’s waterways really matters to us.

Of course, Fund Britain’s Waterways is not just about boating; the risk to our waterways is equally important for all towpath users so we want to see the frontage adjacent to the Mailbox full of supporters! Please do consider joining us in Birmingham (B1 1RS) from 11.00am to 1pm on Sunday 13th August.  As well as enjoying the varied boats attending, there will be an online presentation explaining the importance of the campaign. The presentation will be accessible via QR codes displayed at the event or on Zoom via this link. The meeting is likely to reach maximum capacity so if you are unable to access the Zoom meeting, please visit the IWA Facebook page here where the broadcast will be livestreamed.

About the Cruise

The date has been agreed to enable boaters to attend on their way to the IWA Festival of Water at Pelsall two weeks later. Plans have to be finalised but in brief boats will gather on the Saturday at various locations around Birmingham city centre and progress early on Sunday to gather at the Mailbox.  There will be no entry charge for boats but an application form must be completed.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
