Every year, we run between 16-20 Summer Canal Camps. This means we need to find more than 60 volunteer Canal Camp leaders and assistant leaders each year. The main role of the leadership teams is to make sure the Canal Camp is a fun, well planned and safe experience… and the volunteers are fed!

The Leadership Teams Training Day is a one-day event (with optional overnight stay) for any volunteer interested in getting more involved in helping run a Canal Camp.

This year we have a busy agenda planned including:

  • a focus on mental health – looking after yourself and your volunteers
  • site safety and doing site visits
  • giving everyone essential updates for the year ahead.

For those who want to stay and chat overnight accommodation in the village hall is available as well as an evening meal.

Find out more about the roles: Leader, Assistant Leader and Cook.

Not sure if this event is for you – then get in touch with the WRG staff team, Jen & Jonathan, for an informal chat [email protected] or call 01494 783 453 ext 607.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
