Come join us for this month’s Open Meeting on Monday 8th January, at 7.15pm in the Castlefield Hotel.
The Manchester Ship Canal, often referred to as the Channel Tunnel of the Victorian age, is a magnificent feat of engineering, 36 miles long linking the birthplace of the industrial revolution, Manchester to the Mersey Estuary.
The illustrated talk tells of the history of the building of the canal, the people who worked on it, the ships that sailed up it, some of the incidents that occurred and some strange visitors, all contributing to the fascinating and continuing story of this great North West waterway.
The Daniel Adamson is a 1903 Steam Ship boasting a unique Art Deco interior which was saved from being scrapped by a team of enthusiastic volunteers, who bought the ship for £1 and then secured £3.8 Million from The Heritage Lottery Fund to save the significant ship, which is 15th on the Register of National Historic Ships.
We will start gathering 7.15pm at the Castlefield Hotel on Liverpool Road, Manchester M3 4JR for 7.30pm start in one of the ground floor conference rooms. The entrance to the hotel is on the side facing towards Deansgate overlooking the Castlefield outdoor arena. The talk is free to attend and everyone is welcome.
