Join us for a morning four mile circular walk starting alongside Budworth Mere lake.

From there we will walk through the woods of the very popular Marbury Country Park followed by a stroll along a very quiet lane before looking at Neumann’s Flash. The route returns with a long stroll along the Trent & Mersey Canal back to the park.

Accessibility: There are no stiles on this route and only a few kissing gates. All of the paths are well used and very good, and the walk is excellent for dogs; it is also good for buggies and wheelchairs but they will need carrying up a few short flights of steps. Suitable footwear will be anything flat soled, and although there will be very little mud, boots will probably be best in winter.

Covid-19 safety: IWA Chester & Merseyside Branch asks that attendees have received their third Covid jab at least two weeks before the walk.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
