The Vyrnwy nature reserve has been granted planning permission and will be sited close to the Vyrnwy aqueduct on the Montgomery Canal, north east of Pentreheylin Hall, Newbridge, Llanymynech. On the plan (Image: Canal & River Trust), the River Vyrnwy is to the right, coloured pale blue, and the Montgomery Canal is just showing at the bottom left corner. The aqueduct is off plan, top left.
Chair of the Montgomery Canal Partnership, John Dodwell, said: “This is another project to safeguard plants and wildlife, as part of the restoration of the lovely Mont and it brings more opportunities for recreation and well-being, jobs and businesses.“

Our thanks to CRT project manager Sara James for the marked up aerial photograph of the site (above). Work is expected to start in Spring 2026. Full details are on the Powys Council planning register (reference 25/1140/FUL)
