Since stepping in to save the navigation from closure in 2005, IWA, through Essex Waterways Ltd, has successfully restored and managed the Navigation, increasing its use, creating jobs, and preserving its heritage. Now, IWA and Essex Waterways Ltd are planning the next phase: that is the creation of a new charity to take ownership of the Navigation’s charitable activities, which will simplify IWA’s accounting. This move will also streamline fundraising and reduce administrative costs, helping to attract more donations and legacies.
Essex Waterways Ltd and the new charity will remain part of the wider IWA family of waterways charities.
The details are not yet finalised, but the new structure is set to be in place by Spring 2025. IWA is confident of a bright future for this Navigation and proud of the part it has played to ensure its ongoing success.
