Easy Countryside and Waterway Guided Walk ~ In Cheshire and Free.
This free guided walk is open to the general public, and suitable for beginners. If you’re keeping fit and well and wish to come along and join us, we would love to see more guest visitors. Please book your place for the walk as soon as you are confident you will be available.
One of the most interesting sections of this 4.5 mile circular walk is the first part through the town, and except in winter there is a lot happening on the canal here with boats coming and going through the locks. The towpath is also busy with visitors and townsfolk. Beyond the town the road follows the canal, and if you have one take a walking stick to fend off nosy swans that are used to people and also like to spend time on the towpath. Later you may possibly come across a few cows that may also need fending off. The return route looks on the map as very flat and industrial, but is actually very rural and pleasant for most of the way. The footpath sections are quite easy to follow, with only a couple of fields needing careful navigation; the footbridges and stiles are mainly quite new and in the best of order.
There will be a ten-minute break about half-way round the walk for ‘bring your own’ refreshments.

This walk is suitable for all adults having good mobility. Excellent for friendly dogs, but hopeless for wheelchairs. Suitable footwear will be anything stout and flat soled; trainers will be fine but boots will be the best. If it has recently been raining heavily there could be a few occasional muddy patches. The pub toilets will be available at the finish of the walk; and hopefully at the start. Pleased book a place on it now.
Assemble at 10.15 am for a 10.30 start. Finish about 2.00 pm.
To book, send an email to Derek Smith, the walk’s organiser & guide:- ([email protected]).
If you are bringing a partner please let me know both your names, and if you wish to book a place for the pub lunch afterwards please ask. Places at the pub are limited so it’s best to make an early booking. Here you can choose from the Sunday lunch menu: –
VIEW the MENU (Choose from the Main menu or Sunday lunch).
On the Thursday before the walk, everyone who has booked in will be sent a reminder, and also the details of where to park your car or moor your boat. Thursday noon is also the target for booking a table place for a meal.
The deadline for booking a place just for the walk is Saturday 14th February – the night before the walk.
A booking confirmation will be emailed to you.
