Colin Harvey will talk and present screenings.
A new, delayed timeline has been set for safety works on a shipwreck full of explosives after a new survey detected 18 “unexploded shells and ordnance” (UXO) around it. The SS Richard Montgomery foundered on a sandbank along the Thames Estuary in 1944, eventually sinking with an estimated 1,400 tonnes of explosive cargo on board. Decades later, a government proposal to remove the masts on the vessel in case they fell, with the potential of causing a severe explosion with devastating effects on Sheppey, Grain, & Southend in the Thames and Medway Estuaries, has been halted. |
Tea and coffee are served at all IWA Kent & East Sussex evening events. Entry is free with a raffle to cover costs.
All IWA Kent & East Sussex Branch events are open to non-members and you are encouraged to bring friends. Similarly, if you know of any local society that might be interested then please do let them know.
