This 4½ mile circular walk starts on the south coast of the Wirral near Neston and goes along an old sea wall past the edge of a RSPB nature reserve for herons, egrets and wading birds.

At the end of the wall is a short road section up the hill. The route then continues along a track at the top of a golf course to a well used footpath giving excellent views of the river Dee Estuary. Then down gentle slopes over a field which may be quite soggy if it’s been raining, and along a path to Parkgate where we reach the probable site of an 18th century rope works; returning along the old sea wall to the car park.

There are gates but no stiles, and the route is good for dogs.  If the weather has recently been fine and dry suitable footwear will be anything flat soled, and stout trainers will be okay. However, boots will be best, and you will also need to bring waterproofs if there may be showers.
