Reunion Weekend

Hello,

I am sorry to bring the message that our Reunion event (4/5th Nov on the Monmouthshire Canal) has had to be cancelled.

The complete story is a little complex but it comes down to the age old story of permissions.

And in particular the mandatory surveys & preparation that are needed in order to gain these permissions.

The board had a couple of options to consider but concluded they would both leave the problem of a risk of the event being cancelled even later in the day but also put reputations at risk: both WRGs and the Monmouthshire Brecon & Abergavenny Canals Trust with all their partners.

As such the WRG Board have taken the difficult decision to cancel the event.

We did consider if there were any possible alternative projects/sites but in reality there is nothing that could take us at this short notice.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
