Monthly work party on the Cheshire Lock flight of the Trent & Mersey Canal, between Kidsgrove and Wheelock.
The location will probably still be Lock 53 (Thurlwood Upper), the same as March, but do check back nearer the time.. All that remains to be done on the lock is black and white Sadolin painting on the woodwork. However, there is still a lot of metal fencing to be painted!
Parking info – Lock 53 can be accessed ON FOOT via Farams Road, Rode Heath (Bargain Booze shop is on the corner). Parking usually available at the kerbside between Bibby Street and Farams Road on your left on the A533 Sandbach Road when travelling from Kidsgrove or Alsager via Church Lawton traffic lights into Rode Heath. (N. B. – Residents only parking in Farams Road ).
Alternatively, park on the Broughton Arms car park, cross the canal bridge and a walk of approx. 250 yds to access the lock from the towpath.
Toilet facilities are available at nearby Broughton Arms just a bit further up the canal.
We will meet as usual at 10-00 a.m. and work through until 3-00 p.m. If you are able to stay all day , please bring a packed lunch and a drink. Be sure to wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty and marked with paint. Stout footwear is appropriate and bring along a waterproof in the event of rain.
