Volunteer on the Northampton Arm - week-long project
Back
WoottonBrook_Path

The Northampton Arm is maintained by volunteers – and you’re welcome to join us! We are a friendly band of workers, meeting regularly to look after the canal.

This task is for the week-long project to extend the improvements we have already made to the Wootton Brook towpath.   We will be laying a new stretch of hard surfaced level path to replace the current poor one.

You can come for each day or which ever day(s) you can.  We start on the Monday in earnest (having done preparations on the Sunday task) and finish on Friday 13th October. Volunteers from Cummins Power Systems, who’ve helped with the last towpath improvements) will also be with us to provide extra manpower.  But more help is always welcome!

Please note the Task Party for Tuesday 17th October is cancelled, as we’ll deserve a rest after the week!

So if you’d like to join us please contact Geoff Wood, he’ll give you details of start points and parking.  Please bring a packed lunch and wear suitable clothing. Any tools required are provided.  Start points vary depending on work the to be carried out. Full PPE and life jackets will be provided if the nature of the work requires it.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
