Back
WRG Forestry volunteers clearing vegetation

Come and join us for a weekend dig on the Uttoxeter in Staffordshire.

We will be helping Caldon and Uttoxeter Canals Trust continue their restoration of the Uttoxeter Canal.

The work will be scrub clearance at Crumpwood, a site close to Alton Towers.  We should have a chainsaw and operator to clear a large fallen tree.
Accommodation will be at Greatwood Hall, Upper Tean, ST10 4JY. (Google calls it Great Wood Hall, Stoke on Trent) and access should be possible from about 5.00 p.m.  Transport should be available from the Manchester/Stockport area, leaving about 7:30 p.m. on the Friday evening.  Those travelling independently to site should look for ‘Crumpwood BH’ on Google Maps.

Waterway underfunding

Hundreds of miles of waterways – along with their unique heritage and habitats – are currently starved of funding and rely on constant lobbying by us to safeguard their future.

Sustainable Boating

We want boating on canals and rivers to be more sustainable and – even though the current overall contribution to UK carbon emissions is very small – we want to help reduce emissions on the waterways.

Waterways Heritage at Risk

Britain’s canals and rivers are a unique, living heritage. But that heritage is at risk – from urban development, lack of protection, loss of skills and knowledge and climate change.

You can help Save Waterways Heritage.

Waterway restoration

Restoring the UK’s blue infrastructure – our inherited network of navigable canals and rivers – is good for people and places.
