Kate Saffin is our speaker this month, telling us the fascinating story of how IWA came to be. It promises to be a great evening and an interesting history to our organisation. ‘The letters that started the IWA’.
In July 1945, Robert Aickman wrote to Tom Rolt having read Narrowboat. It was the start of an extraordinary five years that saw the birth of IWA and the growth of 20th century canal mania. It ended in conflagration in 1950 as Rolt and Aickman parted ways. Using letters between them both, from the National Archive, Kate will trace this fascinating journey.
Do join us for this evening of talk and natter!
