Length of walk 4 miles, 3 hours approx. Led by Nigel Hardacre.
This is an easy route, but good walking shoes or boots are recommended as we go mainly on footpaths and tracks that cover both canals. There is the old Lancaster Canal (built 1796-1803), and the Leeds and Liverpool Canal that connected to it in 1816, plus other local history (wharves, coal yards, lime kilns, tunnels, quarries) from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Meet at Top Lock pub car park off Copthurst Lane (PR6 8LS) . 9.45am for a 10.00 a.m. start.
(People arriving by car can also use Kenyon Lane for street parking, alongside the canal, between the top lock and the boatyard)
The walk ends back at the Top Lock pub, which is temporarily closed. Nigel will carry a spare BW/CRT key so that a WC is accessible at the start and end.
This walk is organised in conjunction with Lancaster Canal Trust.
