Come to Gainsborough by 9.30 a.m. on Tuesday 1st April to support the Fund Britain’s Waterways flotilla as the first boats set off to Westminster, carrying the message that our canals and rivers are both valuable and valued, and they need more funding.
The first group of boats heading for Cavalcade and the Palace of Westminster will be setting off from Strawberry Island Boat Club at Doncaster at the end of March and will join the tidal River Trent at Keadby. As they progress upstream they will be joined by boats from the Chesterfield Canal at West Stockwith about 8.30 a.m. on 1st April. The objective is that the combined flotilla will be passing Gainsborough at 10.00 a.m., where they will be greeted by more boats as well as supporters on land. This has to be a “passing through” event because of the tide times, so please make sure to be on the river pathways near the bridge in Gainsborough by 09.30 a.m. Alternatively, you could go to West Stockwith for 08.00 a.m.
