This task runs for the whole week. We are taking on the final stage of Wootton Brook Towpath improvements. Last year’s towpath improvement fell short of the M1. The short section that we did not previously reach is from lock 13 up to lock 12. Our job this time will join up with the concreted underpass that goes under the M1. And so, once complete, the path will be a good one all the way up the flight to Gayton!
We start on Sunday, this will be our preparation day, the real work on the path begins Monday. We hope to finish on Thursday, but we’ve included Friday for contingency. As with previous towpath improvement weeks, Cummins Power Systems employees will be assisting from Monday.
You don’t need to attend each day, just let Geoff know if you’d like to help, and which day(s).
We volunteers maintain the Northampton Arm – and you’re welcome to join us! We are a friendly band of workers, meeting regularly to look after the canal. Our usual work parties are held one weekday and one Sunday a month, along the Arm. Some of the most common tasks that we undertake include vegetation clearance, weeding, litter picking and painting of locks. And more! It’s a good day that will give a sense of achievement for you and the canal environment, amongst a group of like minded people.
If you’d like to join us please contact Geoff Wood, he’ll give you details of start points and parking. Please bring a packed lunch and wear suitable clothing. Any tools required are provided. The start points vary depending on work the to be carried out. Full PPE and life jackets will be provided if the nature of the work requires it.
