On the opposite end of the same abandoned section of the Dudley No 2 Canal that the Lapal Canal Trust are working on, the canal also became derelict following the collapse of Lapal Tunnel and ending of local trade, and could one day also form part of the same restored through route.

In the 1990s some restoration work was carried out on the disused length where it runs through the attractive Leasowes Park, about half a mile beyond Coombeswood Basin (the current limit of navigation of the Dudley No 2 Canal, and the base for Coombeswood Canal Trust).  However, with work since then concentrated elsewhere, Coombeswood Canal Trust is developing a scheme to reopen the Canal from Coombeswood towards Leasowes.

This work will be the first step towards clearing the channel, towpath and towpath wall of this length to investigate its state, with a view to reopening it to navigation.

The work will be clearing 100 metres of trees and dense scrub from the bed of the abandoned length of the Dudley No 2 Canal beyond Coombeswood Basin.
