IWA’s 64th Annual General meeting will be held on Saturday 23rd September at 11.30 a.m. at The Civic Hall, Martins Way, Stourport-on-Severn DY13 8UJ.
The formal AGM will be preceded by a presentation about the Protect Our Waterways campaign at 10.30 a.m. Doors open at 10.00 a.m.
The formal AGM will be followed by the presentation of awards at Midday, and concluded with an opportunity to ask questions of the trustees at 12.15 p.m. and a local waterways presentation (Heritage Harbours and Heritage Inland Ports: Stourport and Beyond – by David Struckett) before lunch at 1.00 p.m.
A free lunch will be provided at 1 p.m., which can now been booked in advance up to Midnight on Wednesday 21st September. Please visit the Eventbrite page here to book your lunch at the AGM. The lunch is free of charge, but please make a donation here to help cover our costs. Even if you don’t wish to have the lunch, it would be helpful to let us know that you intend to attend, in which case, please e-mail [email protected].
We hope that there will be a photographer throughout the day so please let us know if you do not wish to be featured in any photographs. We are looking for a volunteer to undertake this role. Please e-mail [email protected] if you would be willing to help us with this task.
We would also welcome offers to help out with admin arrangements on the day. Please e-mail [email protected] if you would be willing to help.
Members will be able to attend all sessions remotely (Zoom link), as well as attending in person. Please book here if you wish to attend via Zoom.
A display of the history of Stourport and Stourport Basins will be exhibited at the AGM, jointly organised by David Struckett and Stourport Civic Society.
After the lunch, there will be a guided walk around heritage sites and the waterways of Stourport-on-Severn, and an option to join a boat trip down the River Severn (weather dependant).
Guided Heritage Walk
Stourport-on-Severn, recently awarded Heritage Inland Port status, has a unique history. It was built over 250 years ago as an inland port and it is the only town in Britain to be developed as a result of a canal – the Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal. A Guided Heritage Walk around its historic Georgian Canal Basins will depart at 2pm from The Civic Stourport. This will include a visit at the Stables and the old Ticket Office, both impressive heritage buildings now home to a fascinating collection of artefacts. Together with the working boat Bramble they will give clues to the history of the town.
Boat Trip on the River Severn
River King runs 40 minute day trips on the River Severn. Attendees who wish to take part in the trip will need to leave The Civic by 1.45pm and walk down to the riverside adjacent to find the boat that will depart at 2pm. The cost will be £7 per person. As the boat trip is weather dependant, confirmations can only be given on the day.

The Civic Hall will be open from 10.00 a.m., with refreshments available. At 10.30 a.m. there will be a presentation on Protect our Waterways – IWA’s campaign to protect the UK’s waterways, especially funding, and supported by Fund Britain’s Waterways. The formal AGM will then start at 11.30 a.m. This will be followed by presentation of awards at Midday, and concluded with an opportunity to ask questions of the trustees at 12.15 p.m. and a local waterways presentation (Heritage Harbours and Heritage Inland Ports: Stourport and Beyond – by David Struckett) before lunch at 1.00 p.m.
Travel
The Civic Hall is on the north western edge of the town centre.
There is no rail station at Stourport-on-Severn. The nearest rail station is at Kidderminster, then Bus 15C from Lorne Street (3 mins walk) to Stourport High Street (23 mins journey), and then 3 mins walk to the Civic Hall. Bus timetable here.
Attendees will not be able to park in the adjacent Library car park but there are plenty of spaces in the local car parks nearby, including several Wyre District Council owned car parks within easy walking distance, but beware there is a cashless MiParking system operating in them all. There is free roadside parking within 5 to 10 minutes walk to the north west.
Stourport Basin, the River Severn and the Staffordshire and Worcester Canal are all within 5 minutes walking distance. There is a stoppage at lock 7 on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal that will prevent any through traffic until early October.

IWA’s Annual Report & Financial Statements for the year ending 31st December 2022 are unlikely to be signed off by the auditors in time for the event. However, we hope to have some headline figures available, as the audit has been completed.

- To confirm the appointments and reappointments of the following members, recommended by the Selection Panel and approved by the Board, as Trustee Directors of the Association, namely: Stuart Craig, Nick Dybeck, Sue O’Hare, Peter Marlow, Paul Strudwick and Thomas White as recommended each for terms of three years.
- To re-appoint Sayer Vincent LLP as auditors of the Association in accordance with the provisions of the Companies Acts and to authorise trustees to agree their remuneration.
