The Chelmer & Blackwater Navigation is a fantastic place to escape and recharge and there are lots of activities that you can get involved with along the waterway. But a number of the activities do require a licence, such as boating, canoeing, paddleboarding and angling.

Funds raised through the licences help us to maintain the navigation for everyone to enjoy, and also make improvements to things like locks, moorings, pontoons and towpaths.

Buy your canoe / paddleboard licence or see all licence fees

Licence information

Boats requiring a mooring

Boats that require a mooring are charged a mooring fee which is inclusive of the licence fee to boat the Navigation. There are separate licences for boats that don’t require moorings or use of locks, canoes, and paddleboards.

Boats not requiring a mooring

Craft that don’t require moorings or use of locks still need to buy a licence.
