IWA NSSC Branch is currently looking for a volunteer Planning & Conservation Officer to join our friendly volunteer team and help preserve the built and natural heritage in the branch area. This can be done by keeping an eye on local planning authority websites, and submitting responses of support or objection on planning applications that may impact on the local waterways, when appropriate to do so within IWA’s aims and policies. A knowledge of planning issues is useful, but not essential, and the branch committee will offer advice as to what response should be submitted in specific situations. Planning applications can be monitored on council websites, and responses can also be submitted online, so access to a computer and the internet would be ideal. The Planning & Conservation Officer would also be responsible for responding to wider plans issued by local authorities, and again these responses can be based on comments from the whole committee and co-ordinated by the Planning & Conservation Officer. The planning authorities in the North Staffordshire & South Cheshire Branch area include: Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, Stoke on Trent City Council, Congleton District Council, East Staffordshire District Council and Stafford Borough Council.
The committee meets monthly, currently at a venue on the outskirts of Stoke on Trent. Meetings currently take place on the second Tuesday of each month, starting at 7.30pm.
