This is a 4 ¼ mile circular walk with no stiles, on footpaths, pavements, and the towpath.   There is one sharp ascent in the middle of the walk, otherwise the terrain is easy. The walk will now start at the Saracens Head (see below) but the route will remain the same.

Leaving the pub car park we join the towpath of the Trent & Mersey Canal and follow this in a north-western direction as far as an ornate bridge, which connects the canal with estate of Sandon Park. From here we take a quiet lane to the village of Salt. We then ascend through fields and woodland onto the edge of Hopton Heath. Taking great care to cross the busy A518 we then descend on a footway past Weston Hall and back to our starting point.
