The Barge Lock
Appeal has been launched in order to raise £100,000 to
restore the vital link in the centre of Droitwich Spa between one of
England's oldest canals, the
Droitwich Barge Canal,
and one of its youngest, the Droitwich Junction Canal.
Waterway Recovery Group
have pledged to do much of the physical restoration work on the lock as part of
their 2008 canal camp schedule, therefore, the £100,000 needed for the job must
be raised by this summer to enable them to undertake this vital work.
Once
the Barge Lock is restored, this gateway between the two historic canals can be
opened once again to be enjoyed by boaters and all users of the waterway for
generations to come.
WRG Chairman Gets on His Bike!
Mike Palmer, WRG Chairman got on his bike and raised money for the Droitwich Appeal.
On the 21st & 22nd June, Mike and his team cycled the Droitwich Spa ring (between 10-15 miles) as many times as they could to raise money for the Barge Lock Appeal.
